New Girl features indie’s poster girl, Zooey Deschanel. You either love or hate her—for some, Deschanel seems to be playing a parody of herself with excessive quirk and whimsy. For others, Deschanel’s character Jess represents the average girl whose awkwardness is charming. Let’s be honest though – who doesn’t love a good awkward situation?
We highlight 3 awkward moments from New Girl. They take the typical situations that we can relate to and magnify them by 10.
The Landlord
We’ve all known someone who seems to pick up all the wrong signals. Jess tries to befriend the landlord much to the constant warnings from her roommates. Turns out the landlord thought Jess was interested in him and when he shows up to the flat and finds Jess and one of her roommates there, he assumes that they’re having a threesome.
Aint to Proud to Beg
It’s the type of situation where you know someone is well suited for the role, but you don’t want to ask. One of Jess’s roommate’s girlfriend is the stereotypical mean lawyer and finds Jess’s sincerity excessive and fake. Jess asks her for help in fighting off a parking ticket, but after having a huge row in court, Jess decides against taking the help and pleads guilty.
The Awkward Pick-up
The series’ pilot featured Jess’ roommates giving her a lesson on how to approach a guy. What happened? Awkward come-hither looks and what looked like a mating call with her glasses.
